Location: Grayson Marl Formation, Denton County, North Texas
Collexted: Summer of 2015
This Ammonite was collected in 2015. It has been polished with a sealant to prevent environmental/water damage from being kept outside, as is typical for limestone fossils. It is in excellent condition. Fossil ammonites from Texas are highly sought after by collectors.
Ammonites weremarine animals belonging to the phylum Mollusca and the class Cephalopoda. They had a coiled external shell similar to that of the modern nautilus. In other living cephalopods, e.g. octopus, squid and cuttlefish, the shells are small and internal, or absent.
