Age: 205-200 Million Years Old (Early Jurassic) Location: Connecticut River Valley, CT Species: Unknown Theropod Ichnogenus: Anomoepus Slab Size: 9”x 9” x 2.3” Largest Footprint Size: 7”x 4”
While Anomoepus tracks are common, it is rare to find one this size. They are normally found much smaller. Recently and legally collected in private property along the Connecticut River Valley near Middletown, CT. This is the fossil impression of a Theropod (raptor) that existed some 210 Million Years Ago. The species that made these tracks is relatively unknown to science, but it can be said safely that these tracks were made by carnivorous theropods. This particular specimen is pretty rare as Anomoepus tracks are seldom this large or wide. These tracks were likely made by a small theropod dinosaur from the early Jurassic. It’s a raised impression, which is created when sediment fills in an existing footprint and hardens into a separate layer of sedimentary rock within it. This specimen has no highlighting and is very well preserved.
