This is a gorgeous raised dinosaur footprint made by an unknown species of theropod, viewable even without polish. Footprint has been highlighted for east viewing but can be easily washed away. It’s raised because it formed when sediment filled in the original track and hardened within it over the course of millions of years as the sediment became two separate sedimentary layers.

Footprints in the Connecticut river valley were originally discovered, amongst others, by a farm boy, Pliny Moody. E.B. Hitchcock, a clergyman, described the Grallator footprints and others as evidence of ancient birds. Ever since that initial discovery, the Connecticut River Valley has routinely been the site of a plethora of scientific discoveries dating back to the Late Triassic & Early Jurassic periods.
